Southern Community Park Dedication

To those of you who love the new Southern Community Park…

The Town of Chapel Hill is planning two events that will allow you to both enjoy and contribute to this important community asset.  Both will take place on Saturday, June 6.

First, the town will be dedicating the park.  The dedication activities will start at 10:00 am on June 6 and conclude around noon.  Festivities will include music, food and a tour.

Second, the town will be sponsoring a volunteer trail building day (rain or shine) at 1:00, also on June 6.  All volunteers should meet at the Dogwood Acres Drive parking lot. We’ll concentrate on building a hiking trail from Dogwood Acres Drive to the greenway trail near Scroggs School.  No special skill necessary.

Trail builders should bring the following if possible:

* Stiff rake (the steel kind, not the flexible type for raking leaves)
* Loppers for cutting branches and small trees/bushes
* Work gloves
* Appropriate clothes and footwear

Some tools will be available (but no extra work gloves).  We’ll schedule another work day in the future to build trails south of Dogwood Acres Drive. So the town can get an idea of numbers, please respond directly to Bill Webster in the town Parks & Rec office or to Doug Heilig, Southern Village resident and Parks & Rec Commission member, to let us know if you can make it and if you can bring a tool.  Contact information is below:
