UNC Football & Jet Flyover, Saturday, October 11

Dear Friends & Campus Neighbors,

It’s a busy weekend in Chapel Hill with a home football game Saturday against Notre Dame and on Sunday with the installation of Chancellor Thorp as part of our traditional University Day activities.

We expect a big crowd for Saturday’s game and just prior to the 3:30 p.m. kickoff, a United States Air Force B-2 Bomber will fly over Kenan Stadium, barring weather or schedule changes. The jet will be flying low and be quite loud. There will not be any practice runs prior to the actual fly-over on Saturday.

Whether or not you are attending the game, you might want to come downtown and to campus to enjoy Tar Heel Town and the other festivities. Touch Downtown allows you to “park and ride” and visit campus and downtown both before and after the game. You can ride the bus from two parking lots along Martin Luther King Boulevard: one lot is at 725 Martin Luther King Blvd. across the street from Fosters and the other is the “P” lot across from the YMCA. The buses from these lots will begin running 3 hours before kick-off and continue for another three hours after the game. For more information, go to www.touchdowntown.com.

On Sunday, Carolina celebrates its 215th birthday with the installation of Chancellor Holden Thorp. Please join us for this important community event. Free parking is available at the Dean Smith Center with shuttles to Polk Place beginning at 2 p.m. The program begins at 3 p.m. preceded at 2:40 p.m. by music from campus bands and choral groups. Cake will be served at a reception following the installation.

If you are a community group or neighborhood representative, please forward this email to your members and others who may be interested.

Have a great weekend and Go Heels!

Linda

Community Feedback on SV Development

Over the past week, several comments have come to the SVHOA Board of Directors about how Southern Village residents can voice their opinions on the proposed new development for Market Street.

Please know the developer must take comments at the “concept plan review” from the Town Council and citizens of Chapel Hill. This is prior to an official application being made for development review. History suggests this early look at concepts has been helpful in shaping projects in a collaborative way. All residents are encouraged to participate.

The 1st meeting is the Community Design Commission, which is Wednesday, September 24th. The 2nd meeting is the Southern Village Concept Plan, which is tentatively scheduled for Monday, November 17th. Both meetings start at 7pm. Both meetings are at Town Hall at 405 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

If you have questions please call the Town Clerk @ (919) 968-2743.
